Hello to all..
..Powerful Coastal Storm Will Bring Heavy Snow to Much of Southern New
England with the potential for strong to damaging winds across a portion
of Southern New England..
..The Storm is Likely to Affect both the Morning and evening Commutes on
Monday and Bears Close Monitoring..
..A Winter Storm Watch is now in effect for Southern New Hampshire,
Western, Central and Eastern Massachusetts except for Cape Cod and the
Islands and all of Rhode Island including Block Island for late Sunday
Night through Monday Evening..
..Strong winds may necessitate Wind Advisories, High Wind Watches and
potentially other watches/warnings on Sunday..
..Minor Coastal Flooding/Splashover is possible at the time of high tide
Monday. Moderate Coastal Flooding is not expected but will be monitored..
..SKYWARN Activation with Ops at NWS Taunton is likely starting some time
Monday Morning and lasting through Monday Night..
Models are beginning to lock on to a powerful coastal storm to affect
Southern New England late Sunday Night into Monday Evening bringing heavy
snow, and the potential for strong to damaging winds across portions of
Southern New England. While there are still some deviations in the model
guidance, most models are in agreement on an intense storm track that is
near or just outside of the 40 North/70 West benchmark. One reliable
model does bring a track a bit closer to Cape Cod which would alleviate
the impact of the heaviest snow and high winds for some eastern locations
but it appears to be an outlier at this time. Future model runs will add
to the confidence level of forecasters and will allow for the conversion
of the Winter Storm Watch and allow for additional advisories/warnings to
be issued.
The storm has the potential to impact both the morning and evening
commute. Given that is the case, it bears close watching given the
timeframe of impact.
A Winter Storm Watch is now in effect from late Sunday Night through
Monday Evening. Significant snowfall of at least 6 or more are likely
across the entire watch area. Some areas have the potential to see over a
foot of snow if the current track verifies and this will need to be
monitored. Strong winds may also cause further issues with the snow as
well as the potential for isolated pockets of wind damage. At this time,
due to lower astronomical tides this week, only minor coastal
flooding/splashover is possible at the time of high tide Monday but this
will be monitored in case Moderate Coastal Flooding becomes possible.
SKYWARN Activation with Ops at NWS Taunton is likely starting some time
Monday Morning lasting through Monday Night. The next coordination
message will be sent by Noon Sunday and this will fine tune the SKYWARN
Activation and NWS Taunton Operations plan. Below are links to the Winter
Storm Watch statement and Hazardous Weather Outlook from NWS Taunton:
