Hi Peter:
I did it the ez way. Went to my fathers house, we both entered a simplex frequency on 2 meters, he sat in his car with his mobile kenwood, I hit the road in my van with a icom ht, and we talked! Did not get much range on simplex. I think the metal roof of the van caused a problem. When I stuck the antenna out the window it worked better, but I did not think it was a good way to go down the road. I have to get a outside antenna with a bnc connector to my ht, or break down and buy a mobile unit.

I picked up a Radio shack 10 meter radio on close out for $69.99 (htx-10) I am working on learning code so I can use it.
