Subject: Big Bend Ranch Marathon

 

Fellow operators

                We continue preparations for the 30k/80k marathon in big
Bend Ranch on January 18th.  We have about 12 posts to cover and really need
2 operators at nearly all posts.  Presently we have 9 operators who have
said "yes".

                I have created a broadcast list of those operators who have
helped in prior years (or expressed interest) but who have not responded as
to whether you can help with the 2015 race.

                This event is more challenging than prior years.  The
terrain is more challenging for radio coverage, requiring a mix of portable
repeater and cross banding.  We won't be able to do on the ground testing
until a day or two prior to the event, so we may have last minutes "whoops"
to work around.  The access is more difficult - with several posts requiring
jeep access, and one or two likely requiring access on foot.  And almost
last, this is an 18 hour event, with much longer hours for several posts,
and operation in the dark for several posts.  And last (for now) the
elevation of this event is between 2000 and 5000 feet - in January, as you
know - so we want to be prepared for slightly more weather extremes.
