Mine has an "ACN" dial.... there was room, and I agree.... it's just COOL - 
no writing on it, TO THIS DAY.  I just made tracking charts on graph-paper 
(kinda' like an HRO) for each band, and it's easy... after a while, you 
figure out where you are, anyway.  My tubes ended up vertical as well.  I 
recall ARC-5 mods that stuck a tube out the back, but it always looked like 
an accident JUST WAITING to happen.  This one was built while I was in the 
Navy (as a Radioman, no less).  Lugging it around was always an adventure, 
but I still have it.... it gets USED on SKN.

Oh, and later in life, I applied some CRAMOLIN (100% full-strengh DeOxit) on 
the bearing points of the tuning cap, as well as section brushes... cleaned 
up the noise and "mechanical shift" immediately.  More's the pity they don't 
make it anymore, but we used the heck out of it in avionics.
