Tom, I agree with your take on the HBR11. The difference between the 11 and
the 12 are slight.
The 11 uses one tube as the osc/mixer while the 12 uses a seperate tube for
each function, hence HBR12.
The HBR 12 was a modification, if you want to call it that of the HBR11. In
the origional article, the extra tube(osc) was placed horizontal on the rear
of the chassis. I did not like that much so I "fudged" it a bit and made
room above chassis for it. Thanks to Lee's advice I use a National ICN(?)
dial along with a Swan two speed drive. I prefer it to the Eddystone dial on
my HBR 13.

Okay... I'll throw my two cents in - I have a 1964-build HBR-11..... it's as
sensitive (and better) as anything I own that's "modern"...it delivers
READABLE cw at .045uv and is just plain fun. The 11 isn't that hard to
build, and provides almost all the features of the "bigger" versions. If I
could have changed anything, I would have put it in a bigger cabinet - makes
changing the coils easier.
