Greetings to Ray and the list:
To answer one of your questions below:
The S-meter was a dark yellow (could be described as orange) in 1963 when
I got my first HQ-129. I think that is the way they were from the factory.
Same with the Johnson Ranger meter scale card. I think it was a style of
the time.
As far as re-painting the dial bezel is concerned, I think a custom
silk-screen would have to be made to do the job. If you find anyone who is
capable of restoring / re-painting one of these, please let me know. I'd
like to get mine done as well.
73,
Jim T.

My 129X is apparently an early model because it does not have 15 meter
band spreading.
The panel is in very good condition and has nice clear white lettering,
but the escutcheon around the dials looks to have some spots in the
paint, which appear to be small flakes off of the krinkle paint. It
shouldn't be much of a problem to remove the escutcheon and repaint it.
However that would cover the numerals for the antenna comp.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to replace those numbers so they
look much like the other nomenclatures on the panel?
In addition, the S-meter window is quite orange in color. Is that
original? Or that just the result of old age plastic?
Your attention is appreciated.
