[Hammarlund] Hammarlund Digest, Vol 172, Issue 4

The vast majority of HQ-129xs were made before there was a 15-meter band. According to WIKI 15 meters was authorized first in 1947
to compensate for the loss of 160 meters to LORAN,  but wasn't implemented until May 1 1952 for CW and the following
year for phone. The HQ-140, essentially a miniature tube version of the 129 (operational philosophies are the same) did
include 15 meters. It was introduced in 1953 and made through 1956. So unless Hammarlund was clairvoyant about 15 metersthere was little reason to include it on the 129 until 1952 or whenever the official announcement of 15 meters came out. As I have
mentioned a 140 dial will fit a 129. I don't know if the dial was included as an aftermarket option for a 129 or included in the last
year of production.  From Hammarlund's perspective I would think they would really prefer you buy a new receiver.

My 129X is apparently an early model because it does not have 15 meter
band spreading.

The panel is in very good condition and has nice clear white lettering,
but the escutcheon around the dials looks to have some spots in the
paint, which appear to be small flakes off of the krinkle paint.  It
shouldn't be much of a problem to remove the escutcheon and repaint it.
However that would cover the numerals for the antenna comp.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to replace those numbers so they
look much like the other nomenclatures on the panel?

In addition, the S-meter window is quite orange in color.  Is that
original?  Or that just the result of old age plastic?

Your attention is appreciated.
