I can not specifically comment on your problem, as I have never owned a 170. Do have some experience with the 180, however. I think that it would be correct to say however, that as far as the manufacturing / engineering that went into the HQ product line, it was inferior to that which went into SP production. Not only is the quality of the HQ series NOT up to that of the SP line, I think that they were handled by a different engineering department, complete with second tier engineers.I have always had trouble getting these things aligned properly, whereas the same procedure on an SP goes smoothly. These were "cheaper" sets, made in an era of declining interest in such things.  Don't expect the same exactitude that comes with an SP. ChuckN1LNH
