Most manufacturers had different shades of paint used on 
cabinets, panels, etc. Even Collins had, on the "A" Line, 
subtle differences in the paint.

Also, depending on where the unit was stored, displayed, 
etc., the paint can "age" over time and be significantly 
different from what it was originally. Look for somewhere on 
the panel where it has been contact with, like the chassis, 
since the beginning. Compare that to what is now appearing 
on the front. In most cases, there is a significantly 
different appearance.

    The difference is too much for it to be simply age 
darkening, it has to have been painted this color.  Its 
possible the factory used much darker paint on some runs, 
that is what I am asking about, does anyone else have a 
receiver with such dark paint.  While its lighter than the 
cabinet and bezel its not very much lighter while other sets 
and photographs have considerably lighter paint. May be no 
answer to this.
