Thanks for the good advice. Chuck, I am running it all day long as we speak. No funny noises or glitches yet. I have an old Signal Generator,
but also a digital radio that can act as a frequency counter so think I'll be OK. If not, I can borrow an IFR 1200S monitor as last resort. It sure
works well.....no idea the last time it was aligned (or turned on, for that matter). One step at a time.
Wes

Very good! Not the easiest radio to rebuild, but not the nightmare of an SX-28 or even an SX-62. This is a very easy receiver to align. You need a decent signal generator, NOT one of those crappy "service oscillators". If you don't have one of the newer "phased locked" generators, make sure you use a frequency counter to monitor the (always) drifting that will happen with "older tech" types. AND- listen to your radio for a couple of days before you do this. Every now and then, tap the thing gently all over with something like a plastic screw driver handle, and listen for pops, clicks, or other strange noises. Invistigate and cure any of those before going on to the alignment process. I have adopted this plan over many years, and always do it this way. Allows time for all those new tubes, capacitors, resistors, not to mention solder joints, to "burn in" and get used to working as a team. These are truely great radios. I have had mine for over 20 years,
and once it was "commisio
ned" it has been flawless in its operation.ChuckN1LNH

Hi Wes,
Congrats, good work. Chuck brings up a good point, use it for a week
or so before doing the alignment. Leave it on overnite once or twice to
help, but put it thru several cycles of getting fully up to temp and
cooling off.
Did you get a coupler for your BFO shaft? If not, I'll take a look
here, I may have a good one.

Does anything feel better than firing up a set after a full recapping and having it work the first time? Congratulations, Wes. Enjoy that receiver to the fullest!
