There is a lot a about a tube a tube tester won't tell
you. Some testers have gas tests which helps a bit but tubes
that check bad will often work in some circuits and tubes
that won't work often test OK. You really have to substitute
to be sure.
In some cases the tube characteristis were pushed just a
bit by the designer so one has to select tubes. That's not
easy these days because the supply is dwindling.
