All,
Thanks for all of the replies!. I made significant progress on the 170A today. Today was the annual Yakima, WA hamfest. I attended and had a great time. I just happened to find for free a 6C4 tube. It was in a box of other tubes that were being given away. I replaced the 6C4WA that was in the receiver with the used Motorola 6C4 and the drift is almost gone! It is currently taking in excess of 20 minutes for the receiver to drift enough to be noticeable. I am much happier with the receiver now. Now that it is stable enough, I will do a complete alignment on it in the next week or so. I will also re-tighten all of the ground connections as recommended by you guys. Thanks again for all the information. It is greatly appreciated.

On another topic, I almost purchased a HX-50 today. The guy that had it wanted just a bit too much. If he had been willing to come down even a little, I would have brought it home. It sure was a nice looking transmitter. It is also the first one of the 50's that I had seen. I guess i will have to keep my eyes open for another one.
