hi Alan,
The HQ-170 weighs 38 lbs, the orig. factory shipping wt was 45 lbs, so
you should be able to keep it under 50 easily.
Since it'll be handled fairly carefully, unless it falls off the
conveyor going in or out of the plane, I'd suggest wrapping it with large
bubble wrap, getting abt 2" of covering all around, and put that into a
close fitting box. That should take care of the protruding knobs.
For a little extra, use a double walled box, or just cut some properly
sized, close fitting, rectangles from corrugated boxes and put them inside
the box along the sides.
