Bob,
#1, I might suspect your fingers may have 'moved' or shorted something
underneath the chassis when you grabbed it to move. Look around that corner
where the power transformer is located.
If not and my money is on this, #2, this rcvr has a .01 cap from each
transformer primary lead to chassis ground. I bet one of these is shorted!
Make sure you change each of these along with all those others that need to
be changed. I have a hunch you flipped the power plug from what you had
when you were using the variac. With the plug in one direction the power
neutral would be shorted to the chassis with no real disaster but when the
plug is reversed the power hot would be shorted to chassis which is also
connected to your ground. THAT would blow a fuse fast. Also it's a good
idea to replace that original 2 wire power cord with a 3 wire grounded plug.
You should be able to connect A2 to G without any problems.
Yes, there is a hallicrafters list like this hammarlund one, but it is
pretty screwed up right now.
