[Hammarlund] National NC-173

This is not common unless the receiver is AC-DC and
the 173 is not!

There are several possibilities.

The first is that the AC line bypass capacitors have
gone bad (often happens). Remove these and then
replace with new capacitors (like 1000V disc
ceramics).

The next is that the AC line cord is shorted to the
chassis.

There is also the possibility that the power
transformer has developed a short between the primary
and the case.

If none of these are the cause, then you will have to
start trouble-shooting.

Hello I just got a National NC-173 and the chassis
must hot! My long wire ant touched the chassis and
blew a fuse. I know these must be common to all boat
anchors how do I isolate the chassis from the ac?
