I don't think they are particularly scarce, although the really nice ones
(especially those few available with factory ceramic discs) seem to be. It's
just that there are more people interested in owning one of these because of
their justly deserved repuation as great bandcruisers. More interest from
more people in the same number of existing receivers = more $, it's as
simple as that. They aren't particularly collectible. Unlike many receivers,
owners of JX-17's tend to actually listen on the air with them instead of
looking at them, because they are such a pleasure to use on AM.
