Greetings,
I would add a comment or two to what Jerry has already sent. This
is just my opinion so take it for what it's worth.
The JX-17 prices are on the high side if you ask me....because it seems to
be the more sought after of the JX's. Why I don't really know. The little
red knobs of the diversity model seem to drive the price up.
I have been told by those who know these things better than I that the JX-17
has a few problems BECAUSE it was the diversity model. Something like a
JX-14 or JX-21 might be a better choice. My understanding is that the AGC
circuitry is different on the JX-17 and that it doesn't perform like the
others unless it's taken back to the Non-Diversity design as part of the
restoration. I have found that the JX-14 and 21 prices are more reasonable
and if as rumored maybe a better performer!
I will tell you that they are very nice receivers...and I own 3 of them....a
JX-14...a VLF and a John Leary special...I love them all and have no plans
to part with any one of the three in the near future. I would love to find
a small warehouse full of them and spend the rest of my days restoring them
and putting them in the hands of new owners! It's a Classic!
Cecil...
