OK, I've incorporated the suggestions made here and have been more
successful at tuning in sideband QSOs. I notice the following:
1) I don't have to cut back the RF Gain when I am on the high side of the
signal (approaching the transmission from the higher frequency side of the
dial). The strongest one I've received didn't overwhelm the BFO.
2) I have to crank the BFO control to the #3 mark left (counter clockwise)
from top center. Then I clarify with the bandspread. The other way
doesn't work as easily.
3) I can't back off below about 8 on the RF gain without losing
everything. I think this is OK but
3) The signal is MUCH stronger if I approach the transmission from the low
side. of course, I can't clarify it at all with the BFO, just change the
pitch of the quacking.
It just seems to me that my filters aren't lined up with my tuned
frequency 100%, and that's why USB (where I'd have more luck on the lower
side of the frequency, right?) works better than LSB. Any further
thoughts are appreciated.
