i don't know why todd 'boomer' would say that the hq129-x is not a high =
end set. when working properly, this is one very nice receiver and i =
wish i had one. don't worry about the sweep method. a signal generator =
is useful for if alignment but you must make sure it's accurate. a good =
way to do this is to set the generator to 455khz and then zero beat it's =
second harmonic against a station on 910 khz on the am broadcast band. =
do the if, following the alignment chart in the owner's manual. for rf =
alignment, you can use an outboard crystal calibrator or the calibrator =
in one of your other radios (if you have any). make sure that the =
calibrator your're using is zero beated to wwv. contrary to popular =
belief, hammarlund rigs can display near frequency meter dial readout if =
you have the patience to keep going back and forth on each band till you =
get it. this is where the 100khz calibrator is of real value. start at =
the bottom of a band and count the cal markers against the dial markers =
and see how far off you are at the top of the band. keep going back and =
forth making the proper oscillator coil adjustments and you will be able =
to get them to line just about perfect. don't believe me? come look at =
my hq-110 and hq-180. the s-meter will do fine as your output indicator. =
bring the rig over here...i love aligning these guys. good luck and =
73's...mike [email protected]
