I don't know about beeswax, (doubt it) but as Mike McCoy suggested, first
make sure everything is tight.  Also check that the rest of the mechnism
-- tuning cap bearings, etc. -- is lubricated and not binding.  Also make
sure that the drive wheel groove and dial edge are clean and dry -- no
lube there, though dirt may build up in the groove. 

There may be some room to adjust the tuning knob shaft in its mounting
hole by loosening the retaining nut and applying some pressure in the
right direction while tightening it. Not sure exactly how these are set
up. Some Hammarlunds have a tension spring.

If all else fails, you might try some automotive belt dressing -- the
clear tacky stuff, not the black.  Comes in a spray can, but don't spray
it on.  Be careful with whatever you put on the dial edge -- hopefully
nothing.  Whatever it is can migrate onto the dial surface and do some
damage.
