He asked for the right feature as it is already built in to the fltk toolkit used for the flrig user interface. Any button that has the keyboard focus can be toggled, advanced, etc (includes buttons, check boxes, and any control derived from the button). Simply insure that the target control has keyboard focus. Keyboard focus can be recognized for a button by the control having a dotted line just inside its outside border.

Per your request, I tried the test with flrig-1.3.1.4AU (without fldigi) and the flrig PTT button keys the rig as long as the TS-590S is in FM. When I toggle the space bar it sends a string of ON/OFF’s (key/unkeys). I ran the same test in USB DATA mode and the TS-590’s transmit LED turns RED (and flashed when the space bar is depressed); however, the rig does not transmit. No RF going out on an external power meter.
With both fldigi-3.21.77.OCM flrig-1.4.14AU active, the fldigi TUNE button keys the rig; however, it does not key the rig if the space bar is depressed in USB and USB-DATA mode.
I tired to repeat the tests and flrig crashed (several times) when I clicked on PTT and depressed the space bar on the iMac keyboard.
