Ian G3NRW,

Thanks for the tip and the links to the new updates from Kenwood. I just updated my TS-590’s firmware from 1.07 to 1.08 as well as the new version 1.03 of the ARCP-500. The TS-590S lives with the the new firmware.

The only issue I had was a continuing issue I have had finding the correct com port and that may be due to having to run Windows under emulation on an iMac with OS X 10.9.1 (Mavericks). For some reason I have to quit ARCP-500, pull the USB cable, then restart Windows. After a few tries, Windows finally discovers the Kenwood required virtual com port

The good news is I will not have to deal with Windows again until the next Kenwood update. The only reason I keep an up to date version of Window on the iMac is to update the TS-590S firmware.

Thanks again for the notice. The TS-590S is up to date and working great.

The firmware update to v1.08 is particularly important, because it fixes
two very nasty bugs that exist in earlier versions. These bugs are to do
with transmitting on the wrong frequency (even though the frequency on
the display is correct), and sometimes not transmitting at all.

Full credit goes to Andy Durbin (K3WYC) and John Brush (WA3CAS) for
their detective work in tracking down and identifying these bugs back in
the summer, despite the naysayers who said there was nothing wrong with
the firmware.

Less credit goes to Kenwood Japan. After being notified of the bugs,
they acknowledged their existence in August, yet it has taken them more
than *three* months to come up with a fix. Better late than never, I
suppose.

I have installed firmware v1.08, and can confirm that this version does
indeed fix the bugs. I recommend everyone does the same.
