Computer: 4 month old iMac with most recent iteration of Lion/OSX/Intel
i5 2.5 Gig Processor/12 Gigs of RAM
I am trying to get WKUSB working on my iMac so that I can use a K1EL
compatible keyer such as HamGadgets Mk-1 or the microHam CW Keyer.
The problem I am running into has to do with the FTDI VCP COM Port
Drivers for USB to serial connection.
I have installed the driver, and it appears as the
FTDIUSBSerialDriver.kext in the System/Library/Extensions folder.
Using W7AY/Chens SerialMonitor, the following happens when I turn on the
computer with both my IC 7600 and Hamgadgets Mk-1 Keyer turned on:
Bluetooth-PDA-Sync
Bluetooth-Modem
---------------------------
Added: SLAB_USBto UART
---------------------------
Added: usbserial-000012FA
---------------------------
---------------------------
Removed: usbserial000012FA
---------------------------
---------------------------
Added: usbserial-000012FA
When the driver is Added this second time, no program sees any available
port.
When I use SkookumLogger and try to connect to a K1EL compatible keyer,
I get the message "Winkeyer echo test read failed with AMSerial
code:100...See AMSercialErrors.h".
MacLoggerDX tells me that it cannot open the Serial Port.
Both programs see it as usbserial-000012FA but no communication occurs.
Apparently, once the driver has been Removed, it is Removed and the
computer does not see it when it supposedly is Added the second time.
Per the iMac's System Report, the MasterKeyers Product ID is 0x6001 and
the Vendor ID is 0x0403 (Future Technology Devices Int'l Ltd), so this
seems ok.
In reading the Troubleshooting section of the FTDI install guide, it
suggests that this could be a permissions problem preventing the system
from making the device accessible when the device cannot be accessed
even though the deviceID is supported in the FTDIUSBSerialDriver….could
this be the problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I really want this to work.
Best,
