That's a huge jump, in terms of software lifetime. You went from the era of "no such thing as an Intel Mac", skipped the era where both were around, and have landed in "no such thing as a PPC Mac". I'm surprised anything works at all.
If you're not able to buy upgrade for the titles you need, you'll have to switch tools. Your school can probably sell you student versions of the Adobe stuff at a large discount. Contact the manufacturer, or your school bookstore.
You could also look into Acorn (from Flying Meat) as an image editor, and Freeway (from Softpress) as a website editor. You might also be able to do without Photoshop entirely, if iPhoto's touchup tools are enough. Also consider Aperture and GraphicConverter, both of which do nice image work. Aperture has an academic price, and Graphic Converter is cheap.
