Bob,
I changed the title because this really has nothing to do with Norton. It
is my understanding that OSX will perform the daily only tasks sometime
between 2 and 3 AM. I am not sure of the exact time.
I do not leave my G4 on all night so I need to do the daily maintenance. As
noted earlier I can have MacJanitor do it or do it myself in the terminal.
Try the following in the terminal mode
sudo /etc/daily
You will be ask for your password and it only takes few seconds.
There are daily, weekly and monthly commands. MacJanitor does them one at a
time or all. It takes longer to do the weekly command. I prefer the
MacJanitor user interface over the command line. Many prefer the command
line.
How do you really know your eMac is doing the required maintenance? This
lack of feedback is why I prefer to do it myself.
FYI, there are some good shareware utilities that will do it for you if you
prefer to not be involved with the process. It is no big deal to do it
yourself.
