Very strange, I played around removing all PreferencePane items from my
user library and put them back one by one and logged in an out each
time and the EchoMac program worked fine with the iSight!

I then tried to adjust the input level of the iSight audio from the
sound control panel and I got the portaudio error again. If is shut the
sound control panel and tried again it worked, please note that the
error message remains on the EchoMac screen from before but the program
still worked OK on *echotest*.

So I don't know if that helps, but it -can- work with iSight and
Panther -sometimes- .
