(this was inadvertently sent as a private email. Posted here to "catch up!)

This is becoming much more complex than I anticipated. I just took a
look at what would be involved to run FLDigi, and it's scary! Seems I
need a compiler, two programs that must be compiled a specific way
before I can even begin to download and run FLDigi! Yikes! I knew LINUX
wasn't PnP, but looks like I have to learn a totally different way of
doing things, and much more complex at that. I have a few questions for
starters.....

   1. The programs that I can access through the "add/remove" utility in
Ubuntu all seem to be PnP. I just download them, and they "magically"
become programs. The list of programs, however, is limited. Is there any
way to change the "server" that these programs are coming from, or is
that the only one available?

   2. Am I missing an easier method of finding and loading programs? I
found FLDigi, FLTK and Hamlib(the 2 pgms I need to run FLDigi), but the
installation instructions may as well be in Greek as far as I can tell.
Is this the norm?

I'll start with those two questions and see what they generate before
I start getting in too deep hi hi!

tnx es 73
