[Ham-Computers] File problem with IE8

Think Adobe PDF viewer has it in that program as an option instead. Version
of Office might help too, but I don't think the final setting you need is
there (but might be). But, since I don't have the combination you have
can't play around. I remember the unchecking of Browse in Same Window used
to not only pop up in another window, but used the software instead of IE.
Check the options in WORD and make sure nothing about use WORD instead of
browser or the like. Sorry I can't remember more.

List the version of Office to go with XP, IE8 and maybe someone can test (or
good Google search with that info - e.g., "Office 2007 XP IE8 Open in
Word").

Yes, I'm using XP. Sorry that I forgot to state that.

In the Control Panel, opening Folder Options brings up a window with a File
Types tab. Clicking that brings up the list of file types. Selecting .DOC
or .XLS and clicking the Advanced button does bring up a display showing a
choice named "Browse in same window" with a check box that was checked.
Unchecking the check box and then clicking on an .XLS file in the Files
section of one of my Yahoo groups displays the data in a different window
(so you don't have to use the BACK button to get back to the file list. But
IE8 is still doing the display, not Excel (or Word for .DOC). And for PDF,
the "Browse in same window" line is grayed out.

Thanks,
Robert D
