I don't use dialup, but it sounds like it's going out to get some 
updates.  Is this how it behaves when you intentionally go after updates?

I'm going from memory, but if you go into your internet connection 
properties, you should be able to tell it to ask you each time, as 
opposed to dialing (connecting) automatically.


Hopefully that will beat the sucker into submission.
