The Windows XP installation CD has a migration utility that will backup data and settings from previous versions of Windows. You'll need a place to put the migration file. On the new system, you run the utility again to finish the migration.
I've never used the WinXP migration tool, so I can't say how well it works, but it does do some rudimentary checks and conversions to make sure incompatible settings aren't migrated. I have used other products (Altiris and Desktop DNA), but never really liked the final results. As such, I generally migrate by hand...sometimes, you just don't want to migrate those old settings! Other products are out there, but they all work basically the same way.
BTW, these tools only migrate data and settings - it's up to you to re-install any apps and you may need to install the apps on the new system prior to performing the migration.

Subject: [Ham-Computers] Moving programs to a new computer
Hi all, I bought a family member a new computer for Christmas, lucky person huh!!
The old computer is running Win Millennium and the new one has Win XP, is there a program that I download from somewhere that will put whatever is on the old puter to the new puter.
Might be a problem, with the different operating systems?
Suggestions, comments...
Thanks,
Brian
