I can wholeheartedly recommend that if you use Outlook, try "Inboxer" for
your spam filter (it only works with the regular Outlook - not Outlook
Express). Probably the best $29 I've ever spent, and you can download a free
1-month full, un-crippled trial copy from their website. If you later buy
it, they send you an activation code and you don't have to start over and
lose all the training time you've put in. During the first 2-3 weeks of
training it got noticeably smarter every day. Now, after about 3 months, it
is consistently around 98+% correct in culling out spam. In my particular
case, in the past three months Inboxer has processed 8,486 "good" messages
and automatically deleted 2,451 spam messages. The best part is it has NEVER
deleted a single "good" message that I am aware of. If it's not absolutely
sure about a message, it goes into a special "Review" folder, I make the
call, and it further learns from those decisions. At this point I have maybe
4 or 5 of those per day. Naturally, the longer you use the program, the
fewer "review decisions" you need to make, because it's "learning" more
every time.
The reviews I read in the various PC magazines were correct on this one.
These people have figured out how to do anti-spam. I don't know why it's
better than the others I've seen, something related to their incredibly
slick filtering algorithms. I have no financial interest in these people or
their company, but I sure like it when something that doesn't cost an arm
and a leg works exactly as promised. I fearlessly recommend it.
