John,

It has been a number of years since I've operated that specific pairing.

IIRC, when the TX is in calibrate mode, you will need to flip the 
SX-101A Send/Rcv switch to Recv.

TX in AM, and Rx in DSB.

DO NOT key the transmitter!

The receiver in its receive mode and will get the center carrier heard, 
leaving you to simply center and Zero Beat the receiver.

Then you can get the two in sync with each other.

The other option is to plug into the jack on top of the final cage, and 
run a wire "near" the receiver antenna connector.
