Hi all,
Thought it was time to let everybody in on the good news. Actually its
better than good news, its great news. I cant thank everyone enough for
all of your suggestions on my frequency jumping issue I was experiencing
with the receiver. Turns out it WAS the band switch. I cleaned the heck
out of it and it appears after the last few days of playing with the
radio, it took care of the problem. I bought this radio off of Ebay a
few months ago and it was working just fine. This radio had never been
touched electronically until I got my hands on it. It seemed to sound
fine.I have never been real sure what any of my old radios were supposed
to sound like when they were new so I have just been figuring since I
can hear signals and make out what everyone says, it must be working
fine. I decided to recap this whole radio since I have had rainy days
and lots of spare time. This thing was pumped full of paper caps, about
30 of them. I replaced all of them one at a time and testing the radio
each time I replaced one to be sure I didnt mess up. It sounded a bit
better each time, but, when I got to the audio section which was the
last few caps I replaced, whoa, what a difference that made. This radio
has awesome sounding audio now and is very clear and quiet. What a
difference recapping this radio made. Just need to buff out the new
paint job on the case and this thing is going back into service. The
next project is my Hammarlund HX-50 which has a very bad chirp.
Hopefully that will be an easy fix as well. Wish me luck.
Thanks again to all
