[Hallicrafters] How To Unsolder Can Capacitors

I totally agree about the Hakko 808. I just got one at work about 2
weeks ago. What a great tool. I have read lots of glowing comments about
the 808 but I was a bit skeptical until I got one. In my job, I repair
large UPS systems from APC, Liebert, MGE, etc. Some stuff is too big for
the Hakko so I use my Wen 250 watt gun. For circuit board work where the
leads aren't too big, the Hakko sucks all of the solder out and does not
damage the board like gun or iron tips can. Prior to the 808, I used a
solder sucker & solder wick with a hot air gun to pre-heat the board.
The Hakko makes the job a pleasure & the pre-heat sometimes isn't
necessary. I haven't tried it yet on boatanchor stuff. Mine came with a
1.8mm orifice tip. I think the largest orifice is 2.3mm which would
probably be better for our BAs. For the surface mount stuff, I use a hot
air station. For the really big stuff, the 250w gun. For everything
else, the Hakko 808. It's as good as everyone claims.
