[Hallicrafters] SX-100 and others 50 kc IF subchassis

I wouldn't be too sure that all models of the SX-100 have no paper caps in the subchassis. I'm almost certain the S-76 and SX-96, both with similar subchassis for the 50 kc IF, do have paper caps in there (seems like the S-76 I restored did have one or two; it's been a while). The Mark I and IA SX-100 very well may have them too.
Something I have used regarding servicing the subchassis: Use "fish" wires to be able to pull the leads back through the shields, when reinstalling the subchassis.
Here's the gist of how it works: Take a piece of solid, small diameter wire -- maybe 22 ga telephone wire -- and solder it to the "far" end of each shielded lead after they are taken loose. Make sure the solder joint is very smooth and small diameter so that it will pass through the shield (TEST, before proceeding further!)-- AND is strong enough to stand the reverse pull! --; also make sure the "fish" wire is (a) strong, and (b) a lot longer than the shield. You want to be able to remove and work on the subchassis without losing the fishing line inside the shield; so, three feet or more would not be too long! When you're done inside, carefully pull the wires back through the shields and then bolt the subchassis back into place.
BE VERY CAREFUL when pulling the wires back through!
I forget where I first heard of this; may have been on this forum, or perhaps from an article in Electric Radio. Wherever... I thank the person who thought of it and shared it.
Hmm, I do have to wonder why Halligan & Co. felt as if they had to make their receivers so hard to work on. Maybe the intent was that they would not be repaired, past a certain point... merely, REPLACED. With another Halli, of course....
