The 1936 Ultra Skyrider is also known as the model SX-10 which covers frequencies from 5.6MC to 79.5MC in four bands. Raymond S Moore (Communications Receivers of The Vacuum Tube Era) reports less than 200 were made so the receiver is pretty rare. The only cabinet I am aware of for the SX-10 was a walnut cabinet which is maybe even more rare than an SX-10. SX-10's had 19" wide rack-mount style front panels and most came with wrinkle black dust covers. SX-10's originally had a tuning eye tube so the s-meter is a modification. The SX-10 was also equipped with the new Alladin iron core IF transformers so performance on at least the two low frequency bands would probably be on par with an SX-11, however the IF frequency at 1600KC was quite a departure for Hallicrafters then. An SX-10 in good original condition is a highly sought after collectible but you should deduct accordingly for the s-meter and any other modifications. If the price is reasonable though why not?

Subject: [Hallicrafters] Hallicrafters Ultra Skyrider
Have run across a Ultra Skyrider w/ crystal filter. Photo shows clean chassis
/ no rust. In stalled in a cabinet similar to SX-28s. Front panel has been
epainted w/ lettering being masked first. S-meter installed by someone just to
he left of the tuning dial. According to owner it "lights up" but operating
ondition unknown.
May go for it. Would appreciate comments on a reasonable price to offer for the
adio.
