The ads of the time kept promoting the DB-20 as almost mandatory for the 69. 
The early ones helped the images but the tubes used (6D6) were such noise 
generators that they actually reduced the MDS on 10M. The later ones with 
6K7's were a little better. These can easily be modified to a 6SG7. See 
below for other changes as they hold for the DB-20 also.

I prefer the DB-22A with a 6BZ6 in place of the 1st stage and the second 
6BA6 bypassed with a cap but with its coils intact. Move the gain control to 
the 6BZ6. This gives the best performance and I use the pair here often.
