[Hallicrafters] What is this?

I'm a little rusty at the moment on early Halli history but if I am not mistaken the SX-9 was the last of the Super Skyriders made by Silver Marshall for Hallicrafters. SX-9 also introduced Hallicrafters first use of iron core IF transformers which were made by Aladdin.

The SX-9 is not a bad receiver for 1936 Todd. I use a second prodution run
ersion in the minimalist station mostly on CW along with a few others. It
s superior in stability and general use than any other Halli single RF and
tal filter set that I have here up thru a SX-110. Transmitters are various
arly 30's designs.
The HQ-120X is far superior and thet gets cycled in with the 129X,140X, and
BG along with the Viking I.
I wouldnt own a RME-69!

hat's what I thought when I looked at it, though it looked a bit
maller than the SX-9. The one I had did not have the Hallicrafters
ogo on the top right corner and someone had removed the dial pilot
nd plugged the hole with something that looked like varnish. Wasn't a
erribly exciting set and it ended up going down the road back in the
arly 80s along with an RME-69 and HQ-120X. Have since found another
9 but have zero desire to replace the SX-9.
The S-4 should at least have some value as a scarce/odd set. Hopefully
omeone will get it who enjoys the Halli line and bring it back to
ife. Doesn't look like it would take much, though finding a speaker
ould be tough.

Looks like the same cabinet as my 1935 SX-9. Similar front panel lay
out too, see <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzF-KL3papQ>
