You know? Since you mentioned it seems like I do remember a little about
that one. Now that I think about it I cited that example to my wife as the
reason we really should buy the one in Chicago! The $4K sale to Studio City
made a greater impression I guess. One other thing that stands out
concerning the SX-115 is nearly all of them I have seen for sale are in pretty good
condition. Maybe the original owners knew they were buying something
special and took good care of them or maybe it just hasn't been long enough
since they were new to make many trips to the fest in the back of a pick-up. And
I always thought those scuffs and scrapes were patina from working rare DX
into the wee hours of the morning by candle light.

You must've missed the one that sold on ebay for $6K a few years back.
Even the earlier $4K price (set by a certain 6 Lander) was incredible
at the time, beating out the current SX-88 prices by a grand or more.
Today they seem to be back down into the $600-$1K realm for the most
part. I was fortunate to get mine in the late 90s from the original
owner for $550, can't remember if that included shipping. Nice radio
overall, and despite using only one sideband for AM it has the SX-88
beat in stability as well as sensitivity as I recall, and actually
uses a product detector for sideband.
