We already had at least one ham in the white house. Herbert Hoover SR 
was 6DH according to a bio of James Millen. see 
http://www.qsl.net/jms/bio_rem/dfacq67.html . Reportedly Hoover signed 
Millens license when he was Secretary of Commerce in 1922. Given the 
father son relationship it is believeable that Hoover Sr joined his son 
in the hobby. Hoover Jr designed the electrical part of the HRO and 
Millen did the mechanical. Jr was later president of ARRL. 

Some old timers at Dayton a couple of years ago were remincing about 
vip hams , one mentioned that Eisenhower had a license at one time. 
Probably in the Phillipines before wwii. Ike was a licensed pilot too.
