[Hallicrafters] SX-88 Thread

Let's clear this one up. I am in the professional racing business and I am
not concerned about what the values of a few old radios do that I happen to
have around here. I enjoy tinkering with these things and learning about the
history of them in my spare time because they can challenge you technically
sometimes and I enjoy a good challenge that is not related to mechanical
engineering all the time. I am in the Research and Development department at
Hendrick Motorsports since 1989. The Hendrick research department does the prototype
work for future mainstream content as well as the 5, 24, 48 and 88
restrictor plate engines for Daytona and Talladega so what an SX-88 does value-wise is
not all that important. I think they are pretty good though when all
circuits are pulling their weight..

And your repeated assumption appears to be that anyone who disagrees
with you hasn't done this, or they'd agree.

I'll point out again as others have, that the originator of this
thread asked for opinions of cost vs performance, not an opinion of
the world's best receiver. Yet time and time again, you choose to turn
it into that - here and elsewhere. I can only guess it relates to your
many posts about old radios as investments, and protecting your
investments. As I said in my response to your email to me, it's a sad
way to spend your radio time, but it's your life and your....enjoyment
I guess.

Nowhere did I see anyone say that the 88 is a bad receiver, merely
pointing out their view of shortcomings related to the collector
pricing. That's not 'maligning' the radio beyond disagreeing with your
view of the cost vs performance ratio.

Really, they're just cool old radios that we love and 99.9% of the
world will see as broken toaster ovens when we're gone. Also sad, but
true.
