Hi George,
I find a foaming cleaner spray very good for this: cover all the sensitive bits
like IF cans with small plastic bags secured by elastic bands, spray the cleaner
all over the chassis, let it foam and sit for a while, then hose off. Leave to dry
in the Southern California Sun :-)
A couple of times I have used wire wool, but it's a bad idea: little strands of
the wire work their way into places you don't want!
