Use a YC-156, it will be the last amp you will ever need. At 100W drive
and modest HV it will be legal and impossible to hurt. Its a 3CX15000B7
internals with a 3CX5000A7 anode cooler. That tube is available as full
output medical pulls at less than an a 8877 pull. IMD is superb from the
SA plots Ive seen; as would be expected from a tube developed for
medical use. Like down in the -50dB range at 1500W and in the 40's at
5KW. No socket, the grid flange bolts to the chassis. Low filament
requirements.
Use a Class A ricebox as a driver otherwise its wasted. (;
Ive the tube and all the other expensive parts to build one. Just a
matter of reconfiguring the station and racks so I can share and use the
2M and 222 mHz 3KV 1.5A CCS PS. Thats a winter long project the way
everything sorta just grew around here!
The AM stations and amp/modulator racks as well as the vintage SSB gear
will have to move to another part of the basement. With a HT-9 in the
que for restoration thats another heavyweight to fit in.
Ive been promising myself a total rebuild here for at least 10 years. It
will probably mean substantially less operating for several months also.
