In 59 or there abouts we moved the Midland Airport from basically what
is now the center of Midland to *way* out in the sticks to the NW. This
was really rural being either farm land or swamp. There were few CBers
in the area and home building was pretty much hams only. That airport is
now surrounded by subdivisions and a mall. Just pick out Midland on
Google Earth. I brought it up to look at the airport and my plane was
setting on the ramp in front of the hangar with the white 4-Runner on
the taxiway. However the next time I brought it up I see the 4-Runner
almost to the hangar and no plane out front. At least it does show our
new terminal building and EAA Education Center.

The resolution isn't quite good enough to see the antennas out here at
521 Clyde road and that part is older as our driveway isn't paved yet so
it's at least 3 years older than the one of the airport.

Two of the locals build up phasing sideband generators using ARC5s as
drivers. One had a 304TL final and I don't remember what the other had,
but both of them had SSB running on 6 and 2 by early 61. I remember
after code class we'd walk across the parking lot to "jake's place"
(don't remember his call) and operate openings on 6.

By the mid 60's the HT37 was popular. We moved from Midland back to
Breckenridge MI in 60 and I had traded the HT-37 for the HT-44/SX-117
combo by then..

I still remember the 6C21 I was running on 75, 40 and 20. Real bear to
neutralize IIRC. I saw a pair of them running PP with a big tall
copper pipe hairpin. That thing must have been 4' tall. From the 6C21 I
built up a pair of 813's in GG . I used the circuit in the hand book
for the single band amps, but added a B&W band switching tank coil.

I work with the antennas and computers and do plan on building up
something heavy duty for all bands. I like the looks of the 4CX-2500,
but haven't seen the IM products for it under normal operating conditions.
