I believe that particular diode is germanium and is used as the relative output detector. A 1N4007 is silicon and will not work very well if at all. Something like a 1N34A or equivalent would be the proper replacement.

You most likely have a problem in the balanced modulator. When the rig is in one of the SSB positions you should show very little carrier output.

I believe I have it narrowed down the the tiny diode in the loading coil compartment, which seems to be open. It's CR8, with a red and green stripe, part # 019-101916. What type of diode can I substitute for this, and does it require a high voltage? For example, would a common 1N4007 be ok? Also, I hadn't tested the rig on SSB before, it puts out 100 watts on CW, but it seems to keep putting out the 100w CW carrier when in one of the sideband postions, and just superimpose the audio on that, according to my wattmeter, the power out stays at 100 watts. When using the PTT switch on the mic, the relay kicks in, but it seems to be as if it were key down as well. I'm trying to figure out why it's doing this.____________
