[Hallicrafters] SX-25 vent "fin" color?

The fins on my SX-24, SX-25 and two PM-23 speakers are all natural metal.  I think they may be a kind of stainless steel, but if that's so, they picked up a patina of surface discoloration that looks like (may be) rust.

It takes much (as in A LOT OF) hard work to do this, but they can be brought back to a really nice natural finish with steel wool, fine sandpaper (320 grit and higher) and Never-Dull metal polish.

Many people paint them silver.  That's the quick-and-very-dirty (coward's?) way out.  I have never seen any of these fins on any original Halli receiver that were painted.
