I have owned an HQ-129X and have an HQ-140X which is
the same basic circuit with miniature tubes instead of
octal tubes. Both receivers are definitely better
than the S-107 in general performance. However, the
LDS (least decernable signal) or MDS (minimum
decernable signal) is about the same.

In 1959 you could have worked the world with a regen
on 15M as it was the peak of Sunspot Cycle 19.
Even so a school pal had a new S-53A and I had a
second hand HQ-129X during that cycle. Guess who heard
a heck of a lot better with both using similar
antennas?
