[Hallicrafters] Dial Stringing

I did an SX-88 tuning gearbox recently also.  tuning feel was a little rough. 
Had every gear out to replace the ball bearings  many of which had developed 
flat spots. Fairly tedious job timing all those  gears so that the cams 
actuate the end stop levers at the precise time  while attempting to maintain the 
correct preload on all the spring loaded  split gears at the same time! I found 
it was easier to install the springs  afterwards rather than attempt to 
assemble spring loaded gears  .

Gary,

I  have not restrung many dial systems, but not long ago I did a  
complete  overhaul on an SX-88 gearbox.  It took quite a while.  I may   
have the most recent experience on that particular  job.
