OK guys, let's get real here.   Millions of AC/DC radios were used for a long 
time with no history of mass electrocutions.   Ditto two-wire power 
cords/connectors used with electrical appliances generally.   

Jim, don't know how the S-77 is wired up, but if it uses an internal negative 
return (ground) buss insulated from the chassis I would verify the 
installation of this and probably replace the bypass cap to the chassis with a modern 
high voltage unit.   Would then install a modern 3-wire cord with the green wire 
attached to the chassis AND metal cabinet and would fuse BOTH the black and 
white leads.   Would also check the wiring of the outlets I would be using 
which is always a good idea. 

If, on the other hand, one side of the power line is connected DIRECTLY to 
the chassis as is/was the case with certain models of the S-38, I would only 
operate through an isolation xformer.
