[Hallicrafters] Off-subject question on telephones

When I was an installer for a local tel. co years ago and there were
such things as party lines the ringing current came in on one of the two
wires and if one had the wires reversed the ringer would not ring but
the phone would still work ok for calling out. That was easily checked
by just swapping
the wires(red or green) either at the wall jack on the wall or on the
protector on the outside of the house.

My 2cents worth.

for several years at my location without a problem. So, I don't think
the phone company has changed their voltage spec. Perhaps your ringer
coil was ready to go, or as others have suggested, the capacitor might
be bad.
